The Ozone Hole
The Ozone HoleThe Ozone Hole is an area over Antarctica that formed from chemicals Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) breaking down the atmosphere layer. This means that more UV radiation is getting into the Earths Atmosphere and is affecting the organisms that live under it, such as plankton (2). The affects of the Ozone Hole have the largest effect over the spring and summer time, as the chemical reactions that happen are heated up which makes the chemicals vibrate more and increase the speed that they travel at meaning that there is more chances of colliding and causing a reaction to happen and the Ozone Hole to grow in size. (3)
The Chemical reaction that happens between the CFC's, the UV light radiation and the atmosphere is stated below. This reaction causes a catalistic effect; the more free chlorine atoms that are flying around in the atmosphere increases the chance of them colliding with a oxygen atmosphere atom.
The Chemical Equation
